Melissa Wotherspoon’s body of work ranges both in subject matter - from figures and portraits, to landscapes and abstractions - and in medium – from pencil sketches and digital photography, to watercolours and multi-layer oil paintings.  Bold use of colour, versatile technique, and unique diversity in her artwork relate to her wide interests.  In the high school setting, her teaching specialties include Music, Visual Art, and Science; her enthusiasm for unconventional connections translates into a powerful dynamic in the classroom.

“I like to use the word ‘syzygy’ when describing my art.  In Astronomy, a syzygy is the alignment of three celestial objects.  An honest piece of artwork is born when my passions are in balance - in alignment - with one another.  The word also refers to the joining of two entities without losing the characteristics of either one.  My interests are overlapping spheres, at once distinct and integral to each another.”

Melissa lives with her husband Peter and their two children, Eilís and Lochlan in Bailieboro, Ontario, Canada.
